There will not be any additional number of players allowed to participate but players who have already qualified will form mixed doubles pairs. The IOC has been pushing for more mixed gender events in other sports as well. The ITTF also proposed that countries may be only allowed to field players in 4 of the 5 events so will this mean no China in mixed doubles leaving 3 medals open to the rest of the world?
