Fremont Table Tennis hosted its second tournament of 2024, the 2024 Fremont Butterfly April Open, this past weekend, April 12-14, with its usual slate of events and awards. It was a 2-star USA Table Tennis sanctioned tournament. Players came from various places in Northern California to battle for trophies and medals in its 16 events. Special mention goes to Jack Lynch who was the only multiple event winner winning both the Under 1300 and Under 1600! Rohan Bubna (1st-Under 2200, 1st-Open Doubles, 2nd-Open Singles), Alexander Winkler (1st-Under 1900, 2nd-Under 2200), and Akhil Ramakrishnan (2nd-Under 400, 2nd-Under 100) were the players who excelled and reached 2 or more finals. The next tournaments will be the 2024 West Coast Teams on May 11-12 at Fremont TTA and the 2024 Newark Butterfly June Open on Saturday, June 22 at the Siliman Center.

Day 1: Friday, April 12, 2024:
Day 1 was almost the day of Akhil Ramakrishnan’s dominance! He was a match point away in the final from winning both the Under 100 and Under 400. In the Under 400 final, Akhil led adult player Chris Boyea 2-0 but Chris made a great comeback to win 3 close games to take the title. In the Under 100 final, Akhil led Hasini Deepak 2-1, 10-4 (!) but Hasini didn’t give up and came back and won 3-2! In the Under 50 final, Aadev Augustine Singh took the title over Steve Roberts. In the Under 25 event, first-time tournament players Kaviyuvan Irullappan and Aarav Manduva finished 1st and 2nd, respectively.
Day 2: Saturday, April 13, 2024:
The second day of play kicked things off with Open Doubles with Rohan Bubna and Umar Iqbal taking the title over adult duo Kinnar Kansara and Akshay Gosavi. Seniors 50+ came next with Debbie Malkin finished first coming back from 0-2 down over 2nd place finisher Chris Boyea. Then it was Jack Lynch winning the next two rating events, the Under 1600 over Khaden Nguyen and the Under 1300 over Rayan Chatterjee. The Juniors 14 Years and Under event was won by 11-year old Karthik Kalle over just turned 12-year old Raghav Bikkina. The Under 1000 featured a great final with many long rallies and close games with Atharva Arvind coming out on top 3-2 in the final over Aditya Shyam. The Under 700 final was won by Diganth Jain over Abhinav Kakarala.
Day 3: Sunday, April 14, 2024
The third and final day featured the highest level of play of the 3 days with Open Singles, Under 2200, and Under 1900 as the morning events. Visiting Japanese player Yurina Okamoto won the Open Singles defeating Rohan Bubna 3-2 to take the title. Rohan would get his title winning Under 2200 over Alexander Winkler. Alex Winkler would also get his title winning Under 1900 over Alex Rozhin. The afternoon events were two junior events with Shuban Baviskar winning Juniors 18 years and under over Nihar Shah with Juniors 8 years and under having 8-year old Vidhyut Vasan take the title over 8-year old Kethan Bikkina. 7-year olds Viraaj Gaikwad and Vedant Rao finished 3rd showing a bright future!
