2024 Newark Butterfly June Open tournament

The 2024 Newark Butterfly June Open tournament took place at a great venue, the nearby Siliman Center in Newark. This tournament had likely the strongest field to date of any tournament hosted by Fremont Table Tennis Academy. This was a great warm-up for players and students who will play the upcoming US Nationals in Alabama from July 3-7. Players to reach multiple finals were Tanishq Dhavali (3 1st), Mihika Vangapalli (2 1st), Vinayak Bobba (2 1st), Akhil Ramakrishnan (1 1st, 2 2nd), Karthik Kalle (1 1st, 1 2nd), Larry Bavly (1 1st, 1 2nd), Aradhya Shyam (1 1st, 1 2nd),  and Ali Afrakhteh (2 2nd)!

HIGHER-RATED EVENTS (Open Singles, Under 2200, Under 1900, Under 1600, Open Doubles):

Open Singles was won by Yao Tang over Priyan Jindal. Yao didn’t lose a singles game in the tournament and Priyan upset top seed Xiaohua Cui in the semis. The Under 2200 was won by lefty Syed Mahmuduzzaman over pips player George Siu. The Under 1900 was won by Tanishq Dhavali over Larry Bavly who was visiting from New Jersey. This was one of 3 first-places by Tanishq and the second time he has won 3 1st places in his home tournament. The Under 1600 event was dominated by Mihika Vangapalli over surprise finalist Akhil Ramakrishnan. Akhil was the bottom seed in Under 1600 coming in with a rating of 432 and beat players with ratings of 1529, 1168, and 1312 en route to the final! The Open Doubles was won by Tanishq Dhavali and Karthik Kalle over Ella Zhou and Ethan Zhou.

MID-TIER RATING EVENTS (Under 1300, Under 1000, Under 700)

The Under 1300 was won by top seed Tim Wang Lee over Anant Garg. Tim who lost a match to Aditya Shyam in group play but still advanced and took 1st place! The Under 1000 event final featured youngsters Akhil Ramakrishnan over Ali Afrakhteh in a close match. The Under 700 event was won by Abhinav Kakarala over Ali who would get his second 2nd.

ENTRY-LEVEL RATING EVENTS (Under 400, Under 100, Under 50, Under 25):

These events were all won by students winning first place for the first time in a tournament! The Under 400 event was won by Yashashwi Pasumarthi over Siddanth Gogikari. The Under 100 was won by Mathew Roshan over Akshay Gosavi. The Under 50 and Under 25 events were both won by Vinayak Bobba. Aradhya Shyam won 2nd in Under 50 and Rivaan Shah won 2nd in Under 25.

AGE EVENTS (Juniors 18 Years & Under, Juniors 14 Years & Under, Juniors 8 Years & Under, Seniors 50+ Years):

There were 3 junior events, the Juniors 18 Years & Under which was won by Tanishq Dhavali winning 2 close matches 3-2 against Karthik Kalle who finished 2nd and Mihika Vangapalli who finished 3rd. Mihika would get her title in Juniors 14 Years & Under to get her second title this tournament over Akhil Ramakrishnan who reached his 3rd final. Aradhya Shyam won her first-ever tournament title winning 1st place in Juniors 8 Years & Under over 7-year old Vedant Rao. Seniors 50+ Years was won by 2nd seed and New Jersey’s Larry Bavly over top seed Von Erick Apostol.

2025 Fremont TTA Butterfly October Open

The 2025 Fremont TTA Butterfly October Open took place this past Saturday, October 18 featuring close to 100 players. It will be the final singles tournament hosted by Fremont TTA of 2025 but there will be a 2-person team event, the 2025 Newark Butterfly West Coast Teams, on Thanksgiving weekend (Sat, Nov 29). 2025 Fremont TTA Butterfly August Open tournament

The third tournament of 2025 hosted by Fremont Table Tennis Academy took place at our usual nearby venue, the Siliman Center in Newark, located 10 minutes from our main Fremont academy location. It featured the usual slate of events from Open Singles, rating events for all levels, and age events for juniors and seniors.
