2024 Newark Butterfly West Coast Teams

The 2024 Newark Butterfly West Coast Teams took place this past Saturday at a great venue, the nearby Siliman Center. Over 20 teams battled in 4 divisions for trophies and rating points. Teams had many unique team names and had a great experience battling for the prizes with their teammates. The initial matches were crossovers to determine whether they would be promoted, delegated, or remain in their respective divisions. After the initial crossover matches, teams played 4-5 team matches for the chance to reach the final at 6 PM.

DIVISION 1:

Top seeded Team O’Boll won Division 1 with Rohan Bubna and Umar Iqbal as expected defeating Fireball featuring visiting Brazilian player Eduardo Matsufuji and Mihika Vangapalli 3-0 in the final. Third place went to the Gobi Manchurians featuring upcoming kids Raghav Bikkina and Akhil Ramakrishnan. Raghav had a very good tournament defeating 3 players about 300-500 rating points higher than him. The Ping Pong Ninjas featuring adult player Gaurav Sood and youngster Rayan Chatterjee were the other 3rd place team.

DIVISION 2:

Golden State Ping Pong featuring Daniel Thai and Kevan Lin took the title in Division 2 over GoldenStateBlanthan. They had a loss to the adult team of SJ Wild Strikers in group play but advanced to the final and defeated GoldenStateBlanthan in the group stage and again in the final. Third place went to Simply Smashing featuring upcoming kids Mathew Roshan and Hasini Deepak who will smash their way to their first major tournament at the US Open in Las Vegas in December. The other third place team was the father and son duo of Pradeep Srinivasan and Vidhyut Vasan as the Light Flashers.

DIVISION 3: 

The Royal Comets featuring Siddanth Gogikari and Nikhil Kirsur won 1st place in Division 3 over Straw Hat in the final reversing their result from group play where Straw Hat won all team matches! Special mention to Siddanth Gogikari who went undefeated in Division 3 singles matches going 9-0. Third place in Division 3 went to Double Smashers featuring youngsters Kavi and 8-year old Aradhya and the Rubber Duckies featuring adults Chintan Vora and Shyam Kota!

DIVISION 4:

This Division featured the upcoming youth and our future. Spidermen (Reyansh Gandhi, Athiksh Iyer) and Chole Bhaturas (Kethan Bikkina, Advik Krishna) were the top performing teams in Division 4 with only 2 combined losses to other teams going 18-2 against other teams. Spidermen defeated the Chole Bhaturas in group play but Chole Bhaturas turned the tables in the final winning a nailbiting final 3-2 to take home the title. This is both Kethan’s and Advik’s second 1st-place finish in tournament play! The Supreme Smashers (Aditi Swaminathan, Aarvi Pandya) and Slithering Snakers (Aayush Ramachandran, Samar Bagga) finished in 3rd place.

2025 Fremont TTA Butterfly August Open tournament

The third tournament of 2025 hosted by Fremont Table Tennis Academy took place at our usual nearby venue, the Siliman Center in Newark, located 10 minutes from our main Fremont academy location. It featured the usual slate of events from Open Singles, rating events for all levels, and age events for juniors and seniors.
