Some of the Fremont Table Tennis Academy advanced students went to the 2025 US Nationals this past week in Ontario, California. Students to go were Michael, Saatwik, Yash, Anchit, Mathew, Hasini, Isha, Siddanth. Everyone except Saatwik and Anchit were playing their first US Nationals. Anchit and Saatwik were playing their second Nationals. Anchit won gold at last year’s Nationals in Alabama and Saatwik won 5th place. Overall, this tournament was a great experience for all warming up together, cheering the other teammates, and of course, facing off against the best players with every match presenting a new challenge. There were 850 players from throughout the US. There were usually over 100 players in each of the rating events our students played.
FTTA had 6 runs to the quarterfinals (5th place) highlighted by Mathew Roshan’s bronze medal in the Under 1500 rating category. Yash made two quarterfinals in the Under 1300 and Under 1600 rating categories. He was 2 points from a medal in under 1300 narrowly being edged out 13-11 in the deciding 5th game in the quarters. Anchit also won 5th place in Under 1600. Michael won 5th place in Over 65 Years Old singles and Shashin going between coaching and playing, won 5th place in the Over 30 Years Old singles. Isha and Siddanth were two of the lowest rated players in their first Nationals and pulled off many upsets. Isha had a nice accomplishment beating 3 higher-rated players to advance from her U1200 group. Special thanks to William Waltrip from Sacramento who spent the entire week assisting our group. Overall, it was a great experience for our group!
