2025 Fremont TTA Butterfly August Open tournament

The third tournament of 2025 hosted by Fremont Table Tennis Academy took place at our usual nearby venue, the Siliman Center in Newark, located 10 minutes from our main Fremont academy location. It featured the usual slate of events from Open Singles, rating events for all levels, and age events for juniors and seniors. Players to reach multiple finals were Jasmeet Bagga (1st-U700, 1st-U400), his son Samar (1st-U50, 2nd-U25), Sacramento’s James Therriault (1st-U2200, 2nd-Open Singles), and Viraaj Gaikwad (1st-Juniors 8 Years & Under, 2nd-U50). The next sanctioned tournament will be on Saturday, October 18 and look out for the return of our team tournament in November!

HIGHER-RATED EVENTS/SENIORS EVENT

In the higher-rated events (Under 1300 and higher) and older-age events (Seniors 50+ Years), there was a mix of veterans and upcoming kids battling for trophies and medals. Monish Dedhia won Open Singles over James Therriault who would get his title in Under 2200 over just-turned-teen Raghav Bikkina. The Under 1900 final featured Mihika Vangapalli taking the title over surprise finalist Tim Wang Lee. Tim won two deuce in the fifth matches en route to the title in Under 1600 including in the final against Yashaswi Pasumarthi. Blesson Paul won the Under 1300 over top seed Hasini Deepak. The seniors 50+ years event featured Alex Rozhin taking the title over William Waltrip.

LOWER-RATED EVENTS/JUNIORS EVENT

In the lower-rated events (Under 1000 and below) and younger-age events (Juniors 11 Years & Under), it was the father and son duo of Jasmeet and Samar Bagga that shined to 3 first-place and 1 second-place finishes. Jasmeet won Under 400 (over Kethan Bikkina) and Under 700 (over Reyaansh Kohli) and Samar won Under 50 (over Viraaj Gaikwad) and finished 2nd in Under 25. In other events, Siddanth Gogikari won Under 1000 over Saeid Shahraz. Zia Vyas won Under 100 over Viraj Tangri. Pranav Dileepan won the Under 25 event for the second time. In Juniors 11 Years & Under, Kaviyuvan Irullappan took the title for the second time over Mithran Sen. 

JUNIORS 8 YEARS & UNDER

In the event featuring our future champs, Viraaj Gaikwad won the event for the third time. In the final, he defeated surprise finalist 7-year old Vedant Gayaka. Third place went to first-time tournament players Aria Puri and Krishiv Singh. Fifth place went to Kwanita Amarthaluri and Anika Pawan.

Mathew Wins Bronze in Under 1500 Rating Category

2025 US Nationals: Mathew Medals, Students Excel

Some of the Fremont Table Tennis Academy advanced students went to the 2025 US Nationals this past week in Ontario, California. Students to go were Michael, Saatwik, Yash, Anchit, Mathew, Hasini, Isha, Siddanth. Everyone except Saatwik and Anchit were playing their first US Nationals. Anchit and Saatwik were playing their second Nationals. Anchit won gold at last year’s Nationals in Alabama and Saatwik won 5th place. Overall, this tournament was a great experience for all warming up together, cheering the other teammates, and of course, facing off against the best players with everyone match presenting a new challenge….
