2025 Fremont TTA Butterfly October Open

The 2025 Fremont TTA Butterfly October Open took place this past Saturday, October 18 featuring close to 100 players. It will be the final singles tournament hosted by Fremont TTA of 2025 but there will be a 2-person team event, the 2025 Newark Butterfly West Coast Teams, on Thanksgiving weekend (Sat, Nov 29). Players battled all day for trophies, medals, rating points, and bragging rights! Players tor each multiple finals were Ruhaan Pukala (1st-U1600, 1st-U1300, 2nd-U1900), Dewei (Frank) Sun (1st-Seniors 50+, 2nd-Open Doubles), Arkaprabho Ghosh (2nd-U1600, 2nd-Open Doubles), and Ethan Alex (2nd-U50, 2nd-U25). Congrats to all champions, finalists, and medalists!

HIGHER-RATED EVENTS

In the higher-rated events, there was a mix of veterans and upcoming youth taking the titles. In Open Singles, Tre Riley took the title over Alex I. In Under 2200, Yuyang Ying took the title over chopper Kenny Tien. In the Under 1900 event, teenager Anchit Nayak took the title over 12-year old Ruhaan Pukala. Ruhaan would end up being the big winner by winning both the Under 1600 (over Arkaprabho Ghosh) and Under 1300 (over Rhandy Ramon Abrera). In Open Doubles, coach Shashin Shodhan and his student Isha Sriram took the title over long-time doubles partners Dewei (Frank) Sun and Arkaprabho Ghosh. In Seniors 50+ Years, Dewei would get his title over long pips player Christopher Boyea.

LOWER-RATED EVENTS

In the lower-rated events, it was all upcoming youth who took all the titles. Ethan Alex was the only player to reach two finals winning second in both the Under 25 and Under 50 events. Ruoxi Wang won the Under 1000 event over adult player Ramanathan Vaidyanathan. In the Under 700 final, Kaviyuvan Irullappan took the title 3-2 over Akash Tangri. In the Under 400 final, 10-year old Kethan Bikkina won his first singles rated tournament title over 11-year old Evaan Nivin. In the Under 100 event, Ryker Lawrence-Vieira won his third tournament title over Xichen Song. In the Under 50 event, Nikhil Bellulli took the title in his first tournament over Ethan Alex. In the Under 25 event, Anupama Ramanathan won her first tournament title also over Ethan Alex. In the Juniors 11 Years and Under event, Sid Aaran Anchala took the title over Zia Vyas. In Juniors 8 Years and Under, Kwanita Amarthaluri won her first tournament title over repeat-finalist Vedant Gayaka.

2025 Fremont TTA Butterfly August Open tournament

The third tournament of 2025 hosted by Fremont Table Tennis Academy took place at our usual nearby venue, the Siliman Center in Newark, located 10 minutes from our main Fremont academy location. It featured the usual slate of events from Open Singles, rating events for all levels, and age events for juniors and seniors.
