Local basketball star Jason Kidd who went to high school at St. Joseph in Alameda and played college basketball at Cal is part of the 2017 Cal Athletic Hall of Fame Class.
I went to Cal at the same time when Kidd played college ball there. Jason Kidd is one of the USA Men’s Basketball Team Members that came to watch table-tennis at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. One of his high school teachers asked 4 of us local US Junior National Team Members, Freddie Gabriel, Philip Lim, Terrence Lee, and me to do an exhibition at halftime of one of their high school basketball games. When Freddie Gabriel and Terrence Lee had a long forehand loop to forehand block point, the crowd gave a standing ovation and cheered quite loudly.
Kidd was awarded as the nation’s top high school basketball player and has won two Olympic gold medals along with the NBA Championship for Dallas in 2011. Kidd is a lock to make the NBA Hall of Fame. Dallas Head Coach Rick Carlisle and Dallas star player Dirk Nowitzki, who is friends with German legend Timo Boll, both play table-tennis.
