LPGA golfer Lexi Thompspon won the LPGA event at the 2017 Kingsmill Invitational last weekend.
This was her first victory since a controversial rule cost her a victory at the ANA Inspiration tournament earlier this year. A TV viewer called in for a rules violation causing her to penalized 4 strokes when she had a comfortable lead. She ended up losing the event in a tiebreak and this caused outrage and controversy. Lexi Thompson considers ping-pong one of her main non-golf activities and played in a PGA ping-pong event. She is ranked #4 in the world. Many of the golfers on the PGA tour also play table-tennis. Table-tennis is the main activity for the Ryder Golf golfers when they are off the golf course which is well-documented.

Fellow LPGA golfer Michelle Wie, who won the 2014 US Women’s Open for her first major title, took my table-tennis class when she was studying at Stanford a few years back. Everyone in the class knew who she was but left her alone and treated her like anyone else. We would sometimes play winner’s table at the end of class where students would play with different students and I heard one them say afterwards, “Cool, I got to play ping-pong with Michelle Wie today!” She was friendly with the others in the class when she played others. There was a video from the Golf Channel where she talks about the Stanford table-tennis class but I think the video does not play anymore. She hosts an annual ping-pong charity event in Hawaii which is her home state to benefit the foundation that helped her when she was young.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
