The sold-out German crowd was treated to both finals being decided by the minimum two-point margin in the deciding game.
Ding Ning, with partner Liu Shiwen, won women’s doubles for the first time in her fifth try, defeating Zhu Yuling and Chen Meng 11-9 in the 7th.

Ma Long defended his World title and #1 ranking by defeating World #2 Fan Zhendong in the final 12-10 in the 7th in an epic match that fans will remember for ages with both players firing bullets at each other like robots. Timo Boll said after his quarterfinal match with Ma Long that Ma is like a machine. Fan would try to banana all of Ma’s serves mixing balls to Ma’s backhand and wide forehand. Fan had some trouble on the middle ball when balls would go fast into his body as he is possibly a little too bulky and inflexible in his upper body than most top table-tennis players.
