He beat 2012 London Olympic Men’s Singles Semi-finalist and World Doubles Champion Chuan Chih-Yuan and then Rio’s German flagbearer and former World #1 Timo Boll to become the first African to reach the Olympics quarters in table-tennis history. He has also reached the World Cup quarterfinals and was the 2014 ITTF Star Athlete of the Year.
I had put the match on Facebook live and someone told me they couldn’t see it afterwards when I sent the link so here are some of the match highlights. I lost 11-4 in the first and was down 5-1 in the second as was making too many unforced errors. Then I slowed down and was able to play even the second half of the match. I got to 9-9 in the 2nd before losing 11-9 and lost the 3rd game 11-8.
