The table-tennis world has been shocked in the past month with Germany’s Timo Boll and Dimitrij Ovtcharov being in the past two major international finals, the Men’s World Cup and the German Open, where all top Chinese players were knocked out by them or others. Normally, it’s two Chinese playing in the finals of major international events. I have been to China many times for practice and even there, they prefer to see Chinese players play against foreign players in close matches instead of all-Chinese finals where China dominates everything. The German success gives the world hope to beat the Chinese. German Head Coach Jorg Rosskopf maintains that China is still #1 and favorites to win the Worlds next year in Halmstad, Sweden.
