German Coach Jorg Rosskopf: China Remains #1

This is a picture I took of current German Head Coach Jorg Rosskopf moments after winning the bronze medal in men’s singles at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics where I was doing stats and scorekeeping. His quarterfinal match where he beat Korea’s Kim Taek Soo for the first time 26-24 in the deciding 5th game was the most exciting match I’ve ever seen and the crowd gave a standing ovation at the end of the match. I was sitting courtside and working that match and I couldn’t stop shaking in the 2nd half of the 5th game.

The table-tennis world has been shocked in the past month with Germany’s Timo Boll and Dimitrij Ovtcharov being in the past two major international finals, the Men’s World Cup and the German Open, where all top Chinese players were knocked out by them or others. Normally, it’s two Chinese playing in the finals of major international events. I have been to China many times for practice and even there, they prefer to see Chinese players play against foreign players in close matches instead of all-Chinese finals where China dominates everything. The German success gives the world hope to beat the Chinese. German Head Coach Jorg Rosskopf maintains that China is still #1 and favorites to win the Worlds next year in Halmstad, Sweden. Dimitrij Ovtcharov has a chance to become the second-ever German World #1 after Timo Boll after the year-end Grand Finals in mid-December. (Clonazepam) [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
