2024 Newark Butterfly November Open tournament

The 2024 Newark Butterfly November Open tournament took place this past weekend with nearly 100 players from throughout Northern California battling for trophies and medals in 16 events. This is the final tournament of 2024 hosted by Fremont Table Tennis Academy. There were the usual rating events for all levels, age events with three juniors events and a seniors event, Open Singles, and Open Doubles. Players to win multiple events were Akio Fukuhara (Open Singles, Open Doubles) and Cylus Yim (under 1300, under 1000, juniors 11 years and under). The next tournament will take place on Saturday, March 22, 2025.

HIGHER-RATED EVENTS 

In the higher-rated and higher-level events, players battled from Open Singles to Under 1300.  Akio Fukuhara cruised to victory in Open Singles and Open Doubles without the loss of a game. He partnered with Yurina Okamoto to win Open Doubles and defeated her in the open singles final. The under 2200 event was won by Diego Gallardo over surprise finalist and youngster Raghav Bikkina. The under 1900 event was won by Nidhi Trivedi over Atul Rathore. The under 1600 was won by Dewei Sun over another surprise youngster finalist Patrick Wang. The Under 1300 was won by Cylus Yim over Rayan Chatterjee. 

LOWER-RATED EVENTS

The lower rated events went from under 25 to under 1000 and both finalists in all events featured upcoming youth. Cylus Yim would get his second title in under 1000 over Saarth Deshmukh. The Under 700 event was won by Patrick Wang over Lucas Wu. The under 400 event was by top seed Michael Xia over 3rd seed Akash Tangri. The under 100 event was won by Ruhaan Pakala over top seed Nikhil Kirsur. The under 50 event was won by Ryker Lawrence-Vieira over Rivaan Shah. The under 25 event was won by Brandon Wong over Samar Bagga. 

AGE EVENTS

In the seniors 50+ years, Alex Rozhin won 1st place over Dewei (Frank Sun). Frank won 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place this tournament! In the Juniors 18 Years and Under, Lucas Wu won 1st place over Mathew Roshan. In Juniors 11 Years and Under, Cylus Yim would get his 3rd 1st place winning over Aadev Augustine Singh. In one of the favorite tournament events, the Juniors 8 Years and Under, Pranav Dileepan got his first tournament title over Vedant Rao.

2025 Newark Butterfly March Open Tournament

The first tournament of 2025 hosted by Fremont Table Tennis Academy took place on Saturday, March 22 with record entries of about 100 players for a tournament at the Siliman Center. Players battled throughout the day in different events for trophies, medals, and rating points. Players to win multiple events were Daniel Simon (under 1900, under 1600) and Mathew Roshan (juniors 18 years and under, open doubles). The next two tournaments will feature the same slate of events.
