The thrilling men’s singles final between Ma Long and Fan Zhendong was the 3rd most viewed sporting event in China in 2017 with 50 million unique viewers.
The championships reached a record 202 million unique views for the 6 days that China aired the Worlds. The ratings and reach were much higher than the 2015 Worlds even though those Worlds took place in China.

Here is a match analysis of the men’s singles final. Some interesting points that have come out from that are:
- Fan Zhendong used the backhand flick 75 times compared to only 5 times for Ma Long
- Ma Long mainly used the forehand push on serve receive
- Backhand-backhand exchanges were the most common rallies
- Both players lost more points when they attacked first compared to when the opponent attacked first
- Fan Zhendong attacked first much more than Ma Long who was more looking to counterattack
I had given my analysis earlier of the final points.
