One interesting match was the rematch of the men’s singles final of the 2017 Worlds with Ma Long vs Fan Zhendong.
Ma Long won that match 12-10 in the deciding 7th game which was one of the best men’s finals in World Championship history. However, their match in the Chinese National Games was one-sided as Fan Zhendong steamrolled Ma Long 11-5, 11-4, 11-5. Fan Zhendong played extremely well and Ma Long had trouble keeping up with Fan’s pace and barrage from both wings. Ma Long’s Beijing Team is sponsored by Xiom which has been the Fremont Table Tennis Academy sponsor. World #1 female Ding Ning also plays for Beijing and is also wearing Xiom clothing in her matches. The Shanghai team, led by World #3 Xu Xin, won the men’s team title. The Sichuan team, led by World #3 Zhu Yuling, won the women’s team title.
